How to ask AI to write a difficult email
You need to follow up after a meeting, decline something politely, or raise a problem without starting a fight. You paste “write a professional email” into ChatGPT and get something stiff, long, and not quite you.
1. Say who they are, and what already happened
Name the relationship: a buyer after a first call, a coworker, a vendor, your child’s coach. Paste the facts of the last conversation. AI cannot remember the meeting you had on Tuesday unless you tell it.
2. Name the tone you will not accept
“Useful, not pushy.” “Direct, not cold.” “I will not apologize for a boundary.” Those constraints stop the default corporate mush. If you hate exclamation points, say so.
3. Ask for a next step, not a novel
A good email has one ask: a date, a yes/no, or a document. Tell the AI to keep it under 150 words and to put the ask in the last line. Then you edit two sentences so it sounds like you.
4. Start from the messy version
